There can be many reasons behind a toothache like a tooth sensitivity, cavity, infections, grinding teeth, gum disease, tooth trauma and much more. All these may lead to a bad toothache. You must me thinking what steps can be taken at home to alleviate the pain if you don’t see a dentist right away? Here we are going to discuss some extremely helpful home remedies for a toothache which you can try at home to get immediate relief from a toothache and afterwards you can see a dentist so that the problem don’t worsen.  Moreover, we have a habit of taking painkillers for every problem so you can avoid that and try these amazing home remedies and you will surely be surprised to see the goodness of these natural ingredients.

 But I would say prevention is better than cure so you can take some preventive methods so that you don’t face this problem in future like brush your teeth twice a day and use floss at least once a day to prevent gum disease. Avoid sticky food and if you eat it clean your teeth immediately.

Here are some excellent home remedies for a toothache:

1. Warm salt water

salt-waterA toothache caused by the blow to the tooth or mild infection can be treated using this method. All you need to do is make a rinse with warm water and salt. Dissolve the salt properly. Once the salt is dissolved gargle the water through your mouth. Make sure it touches the affected area. Repeat this twice or thrice and you will get a sigh of relief from a toothache.

2. Hot or Cold compress

Doing hot and cold compress on the affected area can do wonders. They are the best and easiest way to get immediate relief from a toothache. It not only increases blood circulation but gives immediate relief from pain and inflammation. Placing ice cubes on the affected cheek can also be helpful in reducing inflammation caused due to a toothache.

hot-compressYou can use hot water and a towel to do the hot compress. Just place it for 30 seconds and keep repeating a couple of times. You can do it thrice a day to get immediate results.

For the cold compress, you can use ice packs, a bag of frozen chickpeas or even cold water. Simply place the ice pack or towel on the affected area for few minutes. Keep repeating this for a couple of cycles. It will numb the pain and will give you immediate relief.

3. Clove oil

A clove has antibacterial, antioxidant and anesthetic properties that help in alleviating the tooth pain and also fights infection. You can use clove or clove oil to get rid of a toothache. Simply place a clove at the sore area until the pain goes away. You can use a paste of ground clove and water. Instead of water, you can use olive oil or clove oil. Place the paste on the sore area and it works as an anesthesia. You can also dip a cotton ball in clove oil and rub it on the tooth to get relief. Or you can mix clove oil with water and splash it through your mouth.

4. Ginger-Cayenne paste

A little cayenne pepper and ginger root can provide toothache relief.  Ginger root helps calm the pain associated with a toothache. It has antibacterial properties and it prevents swelling associated with a minor toothache. On the other ginger-cayenne-pastehand cayenne, pepper has capsaicin which relieves even the most stubborn toothaches.  Mix equal parts of both the ingredients in water to make a paste. Roll a small cotton ball and let the paste completely soaked in the ball. Place the cotton ball on the affected area. Leave it until the pain fades. You can use these spices separately as well because they work as amazing pain killers.

5. Onion

Onions have antiseptic and antimicrobial properties which help in alleviating the pain caused by a toothache. It is very effective in killing germs due to infection and hence provides relief from pain. Slice a piece of onion and place it onionson the tooth where there is the pain. It will alleviate the pain in 15 minutes. Or you can chew a raw onion it will also help in relieving pain. Chew it for at least three minutes.

6. Hydrogen Peroxide

Take hydrogen peroxide solution with water and rinse your mouth. Don’t swallow it as it is just a solution for mouth rinsing. Spit it out and rinse your mouth with plain water twice or thrice. It gives a foul taste in the mouth but is really effective remedy for a toothache.

7. Lemon juice

8. Guava leaves

You can simply chew guava leaves until you get the juice out of them. Guava leaves juice will soothe a toothache. Or you can take 4-5 guava leaves and boil them in warm water. Once they are completely boiled add some salt. Keep the solution to cool and then you can use it as a mouthwash as well.

9. Peppermint leaves

10. Wheatgrass juice

Or you take butter and melt it. Once the butter is melted fry asafetida with butter and fry it on low flame. Allow the mixture to cool and then apply it on the tooth to get instant relief from a toothache and tooth cavity.

13. Baking soda

Now cover the cotton ball with baking soda. Place it on the tooth and keep it for 2-3 minutes. Or you can make a baking soda solution as well. Take lukewarm water and mix a pinch of baking soda and use it as the mouthwash. Repeat it at least twice or thrice a day for best results.

14. Garlic

I know it’s hard to chew a garlic clove you can either use garlic powder.  Or you can crush 2-3 garlic cloves and add salt or black salt to it. Apply on the affected area to get immediate relief. 15. Oil pulling
